Realising your full potential takes insight and self discipline, two skills that Doug George can provide; insight from his years as a leading business executive and self discipline learned through his military career. Doug’s commercial career has spanned more than 20 years and has included numerous senior sales and marketing and general management roles with Readymix and Formica. He was Chief Executive of Smorgon ARC and also established a large business service centre which included the Procurement, Information Technology and Financial Transaction Processing functions for the Smorgon Group. Doug’s 21 year military career, which included being wounded in action while on active service active in South Vietnam, culminated in his appointment as the Commanding Officer of the School of Military Engineering.
Current work
He is active on the Mental Health Research Institute Development Committee and is on the board of a boutique consulting firm.
Doug teams only with a handful of individuals to support their efforts to improve their performance and reach their personal and corporate goals. He has unique interpersonal skills which have resulted in him being well sought after by colleagues and associates as a highly valued mentor and coach. He also has a reputation for getting things done and it is this ability which is so often sought out, namely “how do I do this?”
Doug’s view of coaching and mentoring is based on the simple tenet that just as world class sportsmen turn to coaches to improve their performance, so too can an executive for either themself, their team or the individuals in it. Continual and incremental refining and polishing of leadership and management skills leads to improved performance resulting in time being spent on the important business issues of competing, strategy, marketing, structure and the execution of initiatives.
His passion and drive is infectious and he has over the years encouraged and guided executives to “do their best work”, “to liberate their talent” and “to fulfil their potential”. He has a wealth of expertise across a broad range of business activities, embracing:
– Individual and Team Leadership
– Development of Strategy and Supporting Structure
– Sales and Marketing Development
– Business Planning and Performance Management
– Focussing on Results
– Commercialising Ideas
– Project Governance
– Project Management
