Robyn Archer is a singer, writer and director who has performed throughout Australia and the world. She has recorded at Abbey Road with the London Sinfonietta, had a one woman show which ran for a year in the West End, and written over one hundred songs and a dozen successful music theatre works. She is still singing at the start of 2007 in London(UK) and Perth (Australia).

Robyn was Artistic Director of the National Festival of Australian Theatre in Canberra for three years and of the Adelaide Festival of Arts in 1998 and 2000. She was Chair of the Australia Council's Community Cultural Development Board, a consultant to the new Melbourne Museum for three years and advisor on the Australian cultural content for EXPO 2000 in Hanover. She created a new celebration of the arts for Tasmania, Ten Days on the Island ; was Artistic Director of the Melbourne International Arts Festival 2002-4 and served on the Australian International Cultural Council. She worked for two years on Liverpool's European Capital of Culture, and is currently acting as International Artistic Advisor for Luminato, Toronto's new celebration of arts and culture, as well as festivals in the UK , Ireland, Germany,and Australia.

Robyn is a passionate advocate for the arts and as such always in demand as a speaker: in September 2006 she gave the Menzies Lecture in London. In October she gave the keynote address to the British Festivals Association in Cardiff and the opening keynote at the European League of institutes of the Arts conference in Ghent . In January she was the opening keynote speaker at PUSH Festival's Assembly in Vancouver. Robyn is writing all the time in a wide range of forms, speeches, essays, songs and verse : she has completed the first draft of a newly commissioned play which was produced in the second half of 2008 and a collection of her keynote speeches that was published in March 2008 by the University of Western Australia Press.

She has spoken about Art and Cities (Norwich -May),The Politics of Programming for the Independent European Theatre Meeting (Montreal -May), New Works Now for ISPA (Brussels -June) , Art in a City for the Architecture Quadrennial (Prague -June), Arts and Major Events ( Melbourne - July) and Art and Local Government (Perth-August). Robyn was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2000, and Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts at des Lettres ( France) in 2002. In January 2006 in New York she was awarded the International Society of Performing Arts International Citation of Merit and served on the Rolex Mentorship Programme.

Robyn spoke at New Yorks Arts Presenters' conference, New York January 9,10 and 11 2009. You can hear it at KADMUS arts website. She will return to the USA to direct a new Brechtian cabaret at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh,March/April 2009.

Robyn performed an all French program to a sold-out Dunstan Playhouse in the Adelaide Cabaret June 14th 2009. On July 3rd she performed Songs and Poems from Berlin between the Wars at ACCA in Melbourne - also sold-out.

She was appointed co-patron (with Judge Ian North) of the Institute of Postcolonial Studies (Melbourne).

She gave the 10th Manning Clark Lecture at the Australian National Library in Canberra at 6pm March 3rd 2009. It is on the website of Manning Clark House.

Robyn is now Artistic Consultant to Arts Mildura. In Canberra on May 10 she gave a ripper concert (with Paul Grabowsky) to a packed and cheering house as part of the Canberra International Music Festival.

She was a participant in the 2020 Canberra Summit and traveled to Havana, Cuba for the first time in March to be a juror for the Caribbean Contemporary Dance Rencontre - her invitation came from Culture France.

This year she will be speaking at Artspeak 2009, Queensland's first ever regional arts and culture conference.

Robyn has been appointed Creative Director of the Canberra Centenary 2013. She will curate the program to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Australia's national capital.

Graduating from the University of Adelaide ( BA Hons Eng, Dip Ed) , she is a Doctor of the University and Honorary Research Fellow of the Flinders University of South Australia, and Hon Doctor of Letters (University of Sydney).
