Colin Honey trained as a philosopher at Melbourne University in the 1960s.

He worked for two years as a producer in current affairs at channel 7 before going to Cambridge to study theology.

In 1974 he was appointed principal of the Methodist theological college in Perth.

In 1977 he became Master of a college of the University of Western Australia. He held that position for more than 20 years and undertook further study and research at Edinburgh, Harvard, and New York before returning to Cambridge as a research fellow in 1998.

While in Perth he founded the Kingswood Centre for Applied Ethics and taught professional ethics to students of business, medicine, law, science, architecture, dentistry, and nursing. He conducted special programs for senior police, bankers, engineers, doctors, and surveyors.

In Perth he was a well-known broadcaster and commentator on matters of social interest and concern.

Colin's research is in applied ethics. He has served on the Australian Bioethics Consultative Committee, the Western Australian Reproductive Technology Council, and the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal. He has conducted several government enquiries including one into the Coronial Autopsy system.

He now lives in Melbourne for most of the year but spends three months each year in Cambridge where he continues to hold a research post.

As director of the Lonsdale Centre for Applied Ethics he is active in public debate and is a frequent commentator in the media on major ethical questions.
