Biography

A tall right arm fast medium bowler Queensland, Ashley Noffke is a cricketer who looks poised to make a big name for himself in the near future.

At 24, he is already armed with an Australian Cricket Board contract, has the experience of an Ashes tour behind him, and is evoking many comparisons with Glenn McGrath because of his ability to maintain an impeccable line and length.

Noffke hails the state's Sunshine Coast, bowls with good rhythm a high, clean and uncomplicated action and develops excellent pace through most of his spells. The Bulls' wealth of riches in the pace bowling department ensured that it was not until the 2000-01 season that he made a real mark at interstate level - Man of the Match winning performances in the opening game of the summer's Mercantile Mutual Cup programme and the Pura Cup Final headlining his rise to the top flight.

Nonetheless, he has long been very highly regarded in local circles. He was the leading wicket taker in Brisbane grade cricket in both 1997-98 and 1998-99; the Queensland Academy of Sport Player of the Year in 1998-99; and an associate scholar at the Australian Cricket Academy in 1998-99. To add to his skills with the ball, he is also a capable lower order batsman who can defend stoutly for long periods and is an enthusiastic fieldsman who possesses a very strong throwing arm. (John Polack, August 2001)
