Completing a Masters in Psychology with a focus on mental health advocacy, GWS footballer and Captain Alicia Eva is passionate about the role sport can play in the health and wellbeing of society.
Areas of interest for Alicia include suicide prevention, youth homeless and sport as a vehicle for change in violence against women.
Current Work:
Alicia is an active voice within the professional football environment as a representative on the AFLW Competition committee and AFL Mental Health Steering Committee, as well as sitting on the Board of the AFLPA’s official charity partner- Ladder (who support youth at-risk of homelessness).
As the only female coach in the men’s competition, working as a development coach in the GWS men’s program, Alicia has a unique take on her journey through football, riding the wave from Auskick, being the only girl in her junior team, and now into senior professional football. She is a Level 3 accredited coach and has the honour of being the only current player navigating a dual playing and coaching role.
Alicia embraces her athlete identity and everything that comes with it. The need for balance, learning from failure, perseverance and the importance of strong support networks all contribute to the success of her on and off-field life. Alicia prides herself on her leadership, integrity, hard work, fairness and ability to empower others.
