For 25 years Janine Perrett has had extensive media experience in Australia and overseas in newspapers, radio and television.
Previous experience
Writer: In 1979 she began writing news for The Australian newspaper in Melbourne. Moving to its head office in Sydney in 1983, her duties included writing and editing the financial section of the paper, before she moved to the news desk working as night news editor.
Correspondent: In 1984 she was appointed The Australian’s London correspondent and in 1985 was transferred to the New York bureau. Her four years as US correspondent covered numerous foreign conflicts including Haiti, Panama and Chile. In the US she reported on everything from the space shuttle disaster to the 1988 Presidential election.
Editor: On her return to Australia Janine worked as business news editor for The Sydney Morning Herald before joining Channel 9’s Business Sunday as a reporter in 1990.
REporter: After four years with Business Sunday, Janine began reporting for the Sunday programme and continued to report for both programmes. She was involved in the development of The Small Business Show and was appointed founding presenter and interviewer for the programme.
Host: Janine hosted the program for its entire eight year run, during which time she was also a guest presenter on The Today Show.
Columnist: She has also been a regular columnist for The Sydney Morning Herald, The Daily Telegraph and The Australian newspapers and most recently has been a guest presenter on ABC radio’s Morning Show.
Awards: She has also had extensive experience as conference chairperson, debate moderator and MC, hosting, among other things, The Australian Export Awards, The Yellow Pages Business Ideas Grants, The NSW Small Business Awards, The Banker of the Year award, Bill Gates 2000 Microsoft business launch and the World President’s Organisation summit.
